RhoDeo 1310 Goldy Rhox 99

Hello, today the 99th post of GoldyRhox, classic pop rock, in the darklight an American singer-songwriter who achieved the peak of his commercial success in the early 1970s. Although he synthesized disparate elements of both rock and pop traditions, singer/songwriter our man was at heart a maverick whose allegiance belonged to neither. His initial series of albums in the late '60s made him a personal favorite of the Beatles, who found a natural affinity with his knack for catchy melodies, witty lyrics, and extraordinary vocal range. His  career is also notable for the fact that he was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists of his era to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours.

He was awarded Grammys for two of his recordings; best male contemporary vocal in 1969 for "Everybody's Talkin'", a prominent song in the Academy Award-winning movie Midnight Cowboy, and best male pop vocal in 1972 for "Without You.".

After a few rather unsuccessful late-'70s album, he withdrew from the studio into family life and other business ventures, spending much of his energies campaigning for gun control after Lennon was shot in 1980. In failing health in the 1990's, diagnosed with diabetes and suffering a massive heart attack, he died in early 1994, just after finishing the vocal tracks for a new album.

Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour. Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accommodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

Today's mystery album was released on November 1971, it is the artist's seventh album. Commercially, this was his strongest work, producing three of his better known songs and achieving acclaimed chart success. This album marks the first of two of Nilsson's albums produced by Richard Perry. This is an album, after all, that begins by pining for the reckless days of youth, then segues into a snapshot of suburban disconnectedness before winding through a salute to and covers of old R&B tunes  , druggie humor and surging hard rock. It's a near-perfect summary of everything he could do; he could be craftier and stranger, but never did he achieve the perfect balance as he did here.

It was ranked No. 84 on Pitchfork Media's "Top 100 Albums of the 1970s". The album performed well at the 1973 Grammy Awards, earning a nomination for Album of the Year, while "Without You", a cover of a song by the band Badfinger, won a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
