RhoDeo 1314 Beats

Hello, as the BBC agonizes over what to do with a 51 sec, 70 year old song as it stormed the UK charts this week- it's at #3. Here at Rho-Xs we have no problem with Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead, however people forget that she was gone already, just her body had remained. I fear she didn't score many karma points in her life so those who've hated her have to console themselves with her outlook for comfortable rebirths look bleak, or maybe satan will keep his girl close and give her another starring role, this time in hell... duh

Meanwhile we're here for some beats, Soulwax here we go...N'joy

Soulwax was formed by singer Stephen Dewaele and his guitarist brother David, sons of the influential Belgian radio personality Zaki. With bassist Stefaan Van Leuven and drummer Piet Dierickx, the group recorded their debut EP 2nd Handsome Blues in 1995, traveling to Los Angeles to work with producer Chris Goss for 1996's full-length follow-up Leave the Story Untold. Two years later they were first noticed after the release of their album Much Against Everyone's Advice. But after that the Dewaeles started focusing on their other projects such as 2manydjs (first known as The Fucking Dewaele Brothers/The Flying Dewaele Brothers). Their album "As Heard on Radio Soulwax, Pt. 2" was named the best popular music album of 2002 by The New York Times.

In 2000, the brothers took to Belgian radio with the show Hang the DJ. The show was an hour of impossible combinations with classic rockabilly tracks being mixed together with disco while hip-hop and new wave would clash one song later. MP3s of the show began showing up on the Soulwax website, and soon their bizarre and humorous mixes were showing up as unauthorized white label 12"s. With all samples cleared by the Play It Again Sam label, As Heard on Radio Soulwax, Pt. 2 became the first official and legal release from the duo in 2002 it was named the best popular music album of 2002 by The New York Times. Its influence was massive and soon message boards were filled with discussion about whether there actually was a Pt. 1 while numerous bedroom and laptop DJs joined the genre-ignoring mash-up movement. Over the next few years, follow-up volumes appeared on the underground market and the brothers became prolific remixers working with Tiga, Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, and Daft Punk.

Any Minute Now was released on August 23, 2004 on the PIAS record label, peaking at #53 in the UK. The album spawned three singles in "E Talking", "NY Excuse" and the title track. "E Talking"'s music video was controversial and restricted to post-watershed broadcast on music television channels. Set in London's Fabric nightclub, everyone in the video is depicted as being on a different drug, from A-Z (including popular drug nicknames). Most of the tracks on Any Minute Now were remixed on Soulwax's follow-up record, 2005's Nite Versions.

The duo has also produced a number of official and unofficial remixes, including "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" and "Get Innocuous!" by LCD Soundsystem, "Robot Rock" by Daft Punk and "DARE" by Gorillaz. David and Stephen are friends of artists Tiga, LCD Soundsystem and Whomadewho. In January 2006, Soulwax released their second remix album. The album, titled This Is Radio Soulwax, was covermount into the February 2006 issue of Mixmag. Their third remix album, Part of NYE Never Dies was also covermount into Mixmag, this time in late 2008.

In summer 2006, Soulwax completed a 'Nite Version remix' of Gossip's "Standing in the Way of Control", as well as their 'Ravelight Dub' and 'Ravelight Vocal Mix' of Robbie Williams' "Lovelight". In August 2006, Soulwax were working on tracks for the new album from Tiga. In late 2006, it was announced in Belgian magazine HUMO that David and Stephen Dewaele had formed a band with Shane Doran and his brother in-law Fergadelic called Die Verboten.

In 2007, Soulwax produced remixes of "Gravity's Rainbow" by Klaxons, and "Phantom Pt. II" by Justice. Remixes for "Ice Cream" by New Young Pony Club and "Pogo" by Digitalism had been rumoured, but were never completed. Most of the Remixes... was released on October 22, 2007 and features a collection of remixes made by Soulwax for other artists. The album's full title contains 552 characters of text at the time the longest title for a major label album. .

Director Saam Farahmand has filmed Soulwax on their international dates (2005–2007), capturing all the excitement, chaos and humour of the world tour. Soulwax filmed 120 shows with one camera in Europe, Japan, US, Latin America and Australia. This resulted in 2 films; a live music film and a documentary which includes 2manydjs, Soulwax Nite Versions and features James Murphy, Nancy Whang, Erol Alkan, Tiga, Justice, Busy P, The Naked Guy, So-Me, Peaches, Kitsuné, Klaxons and many more in behind the scenes footage, interviews, etc.

As of April 2008, Soulwax's clubbing film/documentary Part of the Weekend Never Dies is finished. They performed a sold out gig at the London Royal Festival Hall, during which they did a première of the film. It came out on DVD September 2008., and the following year Pts. 10 and 11 of their famous series were released, as well as the album 50 Million Soulwax Fans Can't Be Wrong. On February 2, 2009, Soulwax made a guest appearance on BBC Radio 1, playing 420 song introductions in a period of 60 minutes.

Soulwax (also known as 2 Many DJs) have been working on their app for two years with a team of people: its App Store listing credits an art director, executive producer, musical assistant, five vinyl encoders and the app designer. The app sits alongside the Radio Soulwax website, which has 24 one-hour mixes with accompanying visuals – "we call them mixes, but in reality they are more like musical films based on the record sleeves," explains the App Store listing. A new show will be added every week in the coming months, promising a deep dive into Soulwax's record collection. Users can choose to stream the mixes to their iOS device, or download them. The former is likely to be more popular however: the download of the first mix, Introversy, weighs in at 537MB. The app is free to download and use, presented as a labour of love rather than a commercial endeavour.

Hang All DJ'S Vol. 5 was released Jun 19, 2007 on the Waxed Soul Recordings label. Fifth installment in this mind-blowing series of mega mashes that defy all logic yet miraculously work! Similar in style and substance to the 2 Many DJ's series
Volume five of the hang all dj's series has some segments that have been among my favorite of any of the five 2 many dj's and five hang all dj's discs Soulwax have released. The intro to the disc has Luke Skywalker in dialog with control, panicking "Is there anybody out there? I'm within range of the reconnaissance vessel but I'm hit on my left front stabilizer." This volume of the series has very many disco styled get up and go tracks that make it very upbeat and quite delightful.

Belgian dance-rock conceptualists Soulwax borrowed that bit of pop culture ephemera as the title of their remix project Nite Versions. Radical dance-oriented remixes and reconstructions of tracks from Soulwax's 2005 album, Any Minute Now, Nite Versions is an unabashed celebration of the sound of early-'80s dance mixes, with ironic samples. From this distance the 'nite versions' bear no resemblance to the songs that spawned them; get up close and their features are recognisable, albeit rearranged in Cubist ways. So that cheeky electro banger driven by low-slung bass and hyperactive handclaps is actually ‘E-Talking’, the jazzy Eurodisco workout peppered with sax squeals and Morodorish drum rolls turns out to be ‘Slowdance’, and that dark techno slow-burner isn’t a missing Laurent Garnier track, it’s ‘Accidents and Compliments’. This isn't just a sarcastic joke, however; both due to Soulwax's natural talents and to their obvious affection for the style they're working in, Nite Versions is a fluffy, frivolous, but utterly enjoyable listen.

With a 552-character title that dwarfs the previous record, Most of the Remixes... is the first official compilation of the various mash-ups and mixes from the Dewaele brothers produced under their more familiar guise of Soulwax. Like their 2 Many DJ's alias' series, As Heard on Radio Soulwax, the two-CD collection showcases their bootlegging sensibilities on 14 tracks which tackle artists as diverse as operatic prog rockers Muse (on the buzzing synths and crashing cymbals of "Muscle Museum"), Belgian-American, post-industrial outfit Lords of Acid (on a doom-laden techno re-working of "I Sit on Acid"), and Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue (on a scuzzy garage rock retooling of "Can't Get You Out of My Head"). Like most mixtapes, the standards vary. Their sampling of various Daft Punk tracks ("Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," "Burnin'," "Aerodynamic"), on LCD Soundsystem's "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" is almost glaringly predictable but still works wonders, as does their fusion of two old-school rave classics, 808 State's "Kubik" and Human Resources' "Dominator"; their epic, seven-minute adaptation of the Gossip's "Standing in the Way of Control," which blends snatches of Beth Ditto's wailing vocals with clattering rhythms and a huge slab of industrial electro, and their acid house take on Klaxons' "Gravity's Rainbow." Less successful are their treatments of Daft Punk's "Robot Rock," which removes the infectious, squelchy electro from the Breakwater sample, Sugababes' "Round Round," which turns the joyous Xenomania pop classic into a turgid slice of gothic synth rock, and Robbie Williams' "Lovelight," which apart from flashes of the original backing vocals, and is rendered completely unrecognizable thanks to its discordant bleeps and unsettling grunts. While their extended 12" offerings sometimes run out of steam, the second disc avoids this problem by selecting the best bits of each song alongside six other remixes of tracks by Hot Chip ("Ready for the Floor"), Tiga ("Move My Body") and Felix da Housecat ("Rocket Ride"), on one well-crafted, hour-long, continuous mix. Soulwax's haphazard spirit means that Most of the Remixes... is as inconsistent as you'd expect, occasionally improving on some of its source material, while also ruining others, but it's always an intriguing listen, and justifies their position as the dance scene's premier cut-and-paste merchants.

Could you please re-up the 2nd disc of Soulwax - Most Of The Remixes mixed. They have some of my favorite remixes and I'd love to see how they transitioned between them.

The link for the 1st disc is still working just fine. Some absolute gems are on that disc too.
Thanks!

Can do CerealKiller I'm sure you are aware how unhealthy most Cereals are (full of sugar)or maybe you like to write phonetically. Personally i reckon Psychokillers are even more frightening. Whatever Most Of The Remixes mixed is available again..N'Joy

Thank you. It's a really nice mix.

And yes, I just like the play on words. I'm more of a yogurt and fruit for b-fast type. Thanks again!
